Prem Rawat, founder of The Prem Rawat Foundation, recently accepted the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation BrandLaureate International Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts on behalf of world peace beginning with individual peace.

Prem Rawat received the award at a forum called "7 Billion Reasons for Peace" held in conjunction with a United Nations International Day of Peace 2012 observance in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. He became only the fifth individual to be given the award, which recognizes individuals for their work to positively impact the lives of people around the globe.
Previous recipients are
  1. former South Africa President Nelson Mandela
  2. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
  3. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia from 1981-2003
  4. Heinz Fischer, President of Austria
The award was formally presented by HRH Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, Regent of Perak, Malaysia's largest state, and Dr. KKJohan, President of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation. "Prem Rawat," Dr. Johan said, "is a man worthy of our admiration for teaching us that peace is possible. His is an optimistic and empowering message that touches the heart of the people. We offer you our support and say 'yes' to peace."

Prem Rawat said he was accepting the award "on behalf of every single voice that stands for peace," noting that the conflict that needs to be addressed begins in the minds of human beings.

"There is a war," Prem Rawat told an audience that included royalty, business leaders, diplomats and delegates from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the U.S., Britain and Australia, "not necessarily with guns and bullets, but going on here"-in the mind-"because that's what we have gotten to.

"It is time to practice peace," he said. "It is time to practice consciousness. It is time to practice kindness. It is time to practice embracing each other. If we forget the human being in humanity, if we cannot get along, then heaven help us. Unification begins with each one of us."
